In February 1989, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain decided his band needed a second guitarist to round out their sound. Drummer Chad Channing suggested that his childhood friend Jason Everman might be a perfect fit for the band, and the guitarist played his first gig with the newly expanded rockers from Aberdeen, Washington during a dorm night at the Evergreen. State College on February 7, 1989.

Everman’s recruitment also benefited Nirvana in another way: when producer Jack Endino billed Sup Pop for his work on the trio’s debut album, Bleach, the band’s new guitarist offered to settle the $606.17 bill.

Bleach was released by Sub Pop on June 15, 1989, and a week later the four musicians hit the road promoting the album, playing their first gig of the tour at the Covered Wagon Saloon in San Francisco on June 22. The following evening, at 6 p.m., Nirvana played a free in-store gig at Rhino Records in Westwood, Los Angeles, performing songs from their recently released debut set, as well as the as-yet-unreleased track Divewhich was demoed with Everman at a studio session in April, and a brand new song called Polly.

With the latest reveal that the upcoming Japanese RPG One Piece Odyssey the 2022 release will feature turn-based combat as one of its combat mechanics, fans of both A play and classic RPGs are thrilled with this ambitious undertaking.

For fans who are caught up in the series and want more A playespecially with an extended hiatus after the conclusion of the Wano arc, this game will be a great diversion until the series resumes. One Piece Odyssey will hopefully serve as a reminder of the Straw Hat crew’s cleverest ideas and exploits in the series.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Jinbe – Straw Hat Alliance with the Fire Tank Pirates

One Piece Fire Chariot Pirates

Jinbe proved to be a highly skilled and intelligent strategist, earning the title of Shichibukai or “Warlord of the Sea” before the group disbanded. His excellent tactical decisions got the Straw Hats out of tight spots where they couldn’t think of a proper solution.

Related: Luffy’s Strongest Forms, According To The One Piece Manga

Arguably Jinbe’s smartest decision was to convince Luffy and Sanji to ally with Capone Bege’s Fire Tank Pirates, giving them a much better chance of escaping Whole Cake Island and Big Mom, one of the A playthe most powerful villains. Knowing that Luffy and Sanji would continue to argue over the escape plans, Jinbe’s interjection allowed the entire Straw Hat crew to escape safely.

Sanji – Law Intentions

One Piece Sanji and Law

During the Punk Hazard arc where the crew was pitted against Caesar Clown, the Straw Hats learned that Caesar had developed the fake Devil Fruit SMILE, which mimics the powers of some existing Devil Fruits. When the crew sails to Dressrosa where they learn of Doflamingo’s connection to SMILE, the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates of Trafalgar D. Law form an alliance.

Sanji’s ability to guess a person’s true intentions after spending time with them gave him the ability to detect deception in others. After noticing that Law’s actions did not coincide with the alliance’s plans, he was able to take action which saved Law’s life after attacking Doflamingo’s crew fueled by rage.

Luffy – Intuition of Crocodile Weakness

One Piece Luffy vs Crocodile

Luffy has never been someone to rely on for his wits, preferring to get out of sticky situations with goofy but effective tactics. Although he has his rare moments of genius, they usually occur during the fights he has thrown around while trying to work out clever solutions to the problems he faces.

Related: 10 Times Luffy From One Piece Almost Died

One of Luffy’s most inspired moments occurs during his fight with the crocodile Shichibukai during the climax of the Alabasta arc. While in the desert country of Alabasta, Crocodile held a significant advantage with his Devil Fruit, the Suna Suna no Mi or Sand Sand Fruit. Luffy won the fight by deducing that by covering Crocodile in water he would be unable to transform and would be vulnerable to Luffy’s powerful attacks.

Brook – Using his head (literally)

One Piece Brook Open Head Poneglyph

Brook is a veteran pirate whose journey began and ended decades before the Straw Hats. Trapped in Florian’s Triangle, Brook died along with his crew, though he was revived sometime later by his Yomi Yomi no Mi or Revive Revive Fruit, potentially A playis the most ridiculous devil fruit, as a “living” skeleton. Brook’s unique body has led Oda to create a wide range of skeleton jokes and gags.

Although Brook has always shown himself to be an intelligent crew member, many of his greatest intellectual triumphs have come from working in tandem with others. However, using his unique constitution, Brook came up with the clever idea of storing copies of the Poneglyph they stole from Big Mom inside his skull as a unique and hilarious way to protect them when he was captured by Big Mom.

Zoro – Training with the enemy

One Piece Zoro Hawk Mihawk Eyes

Zoro, like his captain, prefers to throw a punch first, then throw another later. His simplistic views, itch for a good fight, and horrible sense of direction have made him known as someone not to be relied upon to create a cohesive plan.

Frustrated with the power gap shown to him during the Marineford War arc, Zoro made the surprising decision to seek swordsmanship training from the world’s greatest swordsman and Straw Hat nemesis, Dracule. “Hawk Eyes” Mihawk, one of the most powerful warlords in the world. A play. Zoro’s surprisingly adult decision to ask Mihawk for directions is the greatest display of wisdom Zoro has ever had.

Usopp – Kabuto and Clima-tact

One Piece Usopp Kabuto Nami Clima-tact

With below average to average strength at best, Usopp’s combat abilities stem from his sharpshooting abilities which he displays with his masterful use of a slingshot. As the story progresses, Usopp’s tactical abilities expand as he continually unveils increasingly powerful weapons he creates with a vast array of effects.

Usopp Kabuto’s sling, Kuro Kabuto, and the many versions of Nami’s weather-manipulating Clima-tact were all developed and manufactured by Usopp. His weapons single-handedly transformed Nami and himself into some of the most technically efficient fighters in the crew. Not to mention, Usopp is never satisfied and often rearranges weapons into considerably stronger versions.

Chopper – Rumble Ball

One Piece Chopper Rumble Ball

Tony Tony Chopper is the Straw Hats’ doctor who studied science and medicine for years under his former mentor and family member, Dr. Kureha. Chopper has shown his medical knowledge and experience time and time again by keeping the Straw Hats alive and healthy, as well as solving many medical and disease-related crises.

Related: One Piece Crew Members Ranked By Bravery

While Chopper was originally able to use his Devil Fruit to take on 3 different forms, he was unhappy with the level of help he could provide. Chopper then developed the Rumble Ball, a drug which, while dangerous, allowed him to add more transformations to his repertoire, allowing him to manipulate his Devil Fruit more than anyone else in the series.

Nami – Sailing the Grand Line

One Piece Nami Sailing Sunny

Nami serves as the Straw Hat’s navigator as most of the members, especially Zoro, have little sense of direction and even less skill to properly navigate a ship. Nami’s cartographic and navigational skills were so advanced that the pirate Arlong did everything he could to force Nami to work for him by threatening the lives of his entire village in one of the A playthe most tragic stories.

The Grand Line is known as potentially the toughest test of a sailor’s skill. Depending on the day, time and route chosen, the waters of the Grand Line can experience drastic changes. Nami’s ability to not only navigate the waters safely, but also navigate the predicted locations with precision has cemented her as one of the best navigators of all. A play.

Franky – The Sunny Mile

One Piece Thousand Sunny

Franky is a genius cyborg and engineer who always seems to develop another wacky and surprisingly useful invention, either for the benefit of the crew or as modifications for his own body. His constant clever solutions make the anticipation of his next invention all the sweeter.

Franky is credited with creating the current Straw Hat ship The Thousand Sunny and its hundreds of clever innovations and quirks. While the creation of the ship was incredible on its own, his choice to create the ship out of wood from the Adam Treasure Tree was ingenious. Not only did this make it much more durable than regular wood, but its immense strength also proved essential during the many times the Sunny came under attack.

Robin – Learn to read poneglyphs

One Piece Robin Poneglyph

Robin is by leaps and bounds the smartest of all the Straw Hats. Her exceptional skills in learning and absorbing information led her to be seen as a credible threat to the World Government from the age of 8. His skills were so great that even rival scholars who had decades of experience and research were easily surpassed by Robin.

One of Robin’s greatest personal accomplishments was when she taught herself to read the almost impossible to decipher poneglyphs. The poneglyphs, represented by large tablets of stone, collectively hold lost information about the Void Age, which potentially holds damning evidence of the wrongdoings of World Government. Her rare ability to read them has led to her being hunted by rival pirate crews and the Marines who wish to use her skills or kill her if she refuses.

When it comes to the A play series, there is certainly no shortage of content for anime fans to consume. Not only are there over 1000 episodes right now with multiple specials and OVAs along with 102 manga volumes, but 14 feature films. Very soon there will also be a 15th addition to the movie collection: One Piece Movie: Red.

One Piece Movie: Red is the latest feature film based on the A play series. It made waves in the anime community when it was first announced in November 2021 as part of the celebration surrounding the show’s 1000th episode. It’s quite a feat, after all, one of which absolutely deserved to be associated with a new movie announcement.

Set to follow a new character named Uta, One Piece Movie: Red will take viewers to a new island where the pop diva takes to the stage to perform in front of her adoring fans. According to the trailer, Uta is “the greatest diva in the world”, and her voice is ready to change the world. Of course, that’s not the most intriguing thing about her, as the full trailer reveals that Uta is actually the daughter of legendary pirate Red-Haired Shanks.

With such a dynamite premise, it’s easy to see why A play fans can’t wait to step into a movie theater to see the latest addition to the gripping and action-packed film series. But when exactly can fans expect to see One Piece Movie: Red out in US theaters? Has the movie ever been greenlit for a Western release date? If you’re wondering when you’ll be able to pick up your tickets, we’ve got the answers you’re looking for below. Yo-ho-ho, don’t take a bite of Gum-Gum! Keep reading.

When is the Western release date of ‘One Piece Film: Red’?

Do One Piece Movie: Red do you have a western release date? The short answer is no. Not Again, In any event. The film is slated for release in Japan, however, on August 6, 2022. That’s just a few months away, just before fall arrives. This date was confirmed in the feature film. One Piece Movie: Red trailer and has been frozen for some time. Unfortunately, no official release date for the film has been confirmed yet.

Most anime films are released in Japan first and hit Western theaters at a later date, usually with options for dubbed or subtitled screenings on different dates. Funimation is the North American distributor of A playand launched the 14th film in the series’ history, One Piece: Stampede in October 2019, just months after its debut in Japan in August 2019.

If we follow this logic, it is quite possible that after One Piece Movie: Red debuts in August 2022, we could see a Western release date as early as October 2022. Given that COVID-19 is still of great concern, however, and One Piece: Stampede released during a pre-pandemic schedule, it’s possible Funimation may need more time to complete the project for English-speaking viewers in the West. It’s also worth noting that in the official Crunchyroll trailer, the words “Coming Soon” appear at the end of the clip, meaning the movie’s release could be a lot closer than we think.

So if you are looking to see the newest A play movie as soon as possible, your best bet will be to wait a few months and keep your eyes on A play news as soon as it hits. We can see it as early as fall 2022, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Rest assured, however, due to One Piece popularity, we will probably see it very, very soon.

Every fashion girl knows Mejuri as *the place* to shop for fine everyday jewelry. But from May 23, he officially expanded his profile. This spring, the brand launched its first products in the home space thanks to its Mejuri x Claude Home collaboration – a co-creation of “morphic vessels” imagined by the accessories brand and the contemporary design company vintage and of furniture designed to give your most treasured rooms the home they deserve.

It’s not a big collection, but it doesn’t have to be – the $198 Arch Vessel and $128 Pebble Vessel provide just what you need to store your jewelry in a stylish and serene way. Inspired by the spiritual setting of a Zen garden, Claude Home founders Maggie Holladay and Mejuri envisioned asymmetrical shapes meant to fit together like a puzzle. The marble they’re made from and the natural stone and red onyx variations provide a matte backdrop against which your necklaces, earrings and more will *really* shine.

“Working with neutral and organic materials, limestone and onyx, and inspired by forms found in nature, the three-piece jewelry tray set serves as a functional design, an ‘art object'” , Holladay said in a press release. “Bringing this beautifully simple piece to life with the Mejuri team was a dream and I’m so glad you all enjoyed it in your home or as a special gift for a loved one.”

The idea for art-inspired storage couldn’t have come at a better time. With the influence and popularity of brands like The Home Edit and Marie Kondo reaching fever pitch and the ever-growing demand for Instagrammable décor, Mejuri’s new collab hits just the right note. Plus, its simplicity ensures that the pieces lend themselves to any interior or jewelry style, meaning there are few who couldn’t find a place for these in their home.

The capsule collection has officially launched at Mejuri’s new store on Abbot Kinney in Venice, in addition to its eight other physical locations and its online store. (Although, as the brand’s website notes, the red onyx Pebble Vessel is exclusively available in-store at its Dundas West, Abbot Kinney, and Spring Street locations.) You can drop by any of these locations to buy the collaboration now, or click through via the links ahead.

At TZR, we only include products that have been independently selected by our editors. We may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article.

A lot of A play hope that Yamato will join the Straw Hat Pirates on their adventures. His bubbly personality and raw power make him a good candidate for the crew. Additionally, she expressly stated her desire to go to sea with Luffy. Nothing is set in stone, but it seems likely that Yamato will find his way aboard the Thousand Sunny. At least for a little while.

If Yamato really spends a long period of time among the Straw Hats, it can lead to all sorts of story possibilities. Her potential interactions with individual crew members could result in anything from deep and meaningful conversations to ridiculous hijinx. Here’s an idea of what life would be like aboard the Sunny between Yamato and each of the Straw Hats.

RELATED: One Piece Theory: Luffy’s Last Statement Is Also His Secret Dream

Luffy

Many fans already know what Luffy and Yamato have in common: Portgas D. Ace. They both knew him well during his lifetime, Luffy in particular, and fondly remember their time with him. This connection is also a big reason why Yamato was so eager for Luffy to reach Wano. However, they were only able to briefly discuss Ace when they first met. If Yamato ends up boarding the Sunny, it would be far from the last conversation they would have about him. They could even discuss him while drinking sake together, as Yamato had always hoped.

Zoro

Yamato would also have a few things to say with Zoro. For one, he bears a striking resemblance to Shimotsuki Ushimaru, a samurai to whom she is indebted. Not only did he save her from starvation as a child, but he also helped her read Oden’s diary.

Another interesting thing about Zoro is his three-sword style. It’s reminiscent of Oden’s two-sword style. If Yamato wanted to, she could learn to master Zoro’s sword to get closer to her idol. It’s hard to imagine her losing her kanabō, but maybe she would get a second one or something.

RELATED: One Piece: Oda May Be Making Same Mistake As Toei Animation

Nami

Nami would probably get along with Yamato the same way she gets along with all the other girls. She tends to connect quickly with girls and form sisterly bonds with them. She’s also compassionate enough to look past Yamato’s familial connection to Kaidō, even if it raises a red flag at first.

They could also go shopping together to change clothes. Although Yamato looks great in his current outfit, the Straw Hats tend to change outfits wherever they go. If she joined the crew, she would become a part of this trend.

RELATED: One Piece: Gol D. Roger’s Official Devil Fruit Status & What It Means

Usopp

For how much Yamato gushed over her idol Oden, it’s clear she has a love for legends and old stories. With that in mind, she would be a perfect audience member for one of Usopp’s great God tales. She and Chopper would probably sit on the deck of the Sunny and listen to him talk about how he can sink warships and take down giants. Then they would be amazed to see all of these things happening hundreds of chapters later. There might even come a day when Yamato calls herself Usopp and fights for her like she did for Oden.

Sanji

Yamato’s interactions with Sanji would depend on how hard she leans towards being Kozuki Oden. If she really preferred to be seen as a man, then Sanji would have to restrain her carnal desires and respect “her” pronouns. For Yamato’s beauty, it would drive him crazy. Alternatively, since Oden was a notorious womanizer, maybe they could both have a perv together on pretty girls.

More seriously, they both have similar family issues. They both hate their heritage because of their fathers. Whenever they are ready, they could discuss this on oden prepared by Sanji.

RELATED: One Piece: The Real Reason Episode 1015 Was So Well Animated

Chopper

Yamato and Chopper have the potential for all kinds of hijinx together. In one of the Straw Hats’ more lax moments, there might be a scene with the two locking their horns and antlers by accident. There might also be a tongue-in-cheek scene where a human-form Chopper rides Yamato’s animal form into battle.

Being other Zoan Devil Fruit users gives Chopper and Yamato similar upgrade options. Chopper could potentially develop Rumble Balls that allow Yamato to transform in all sorts of new ways, just like him. Yamato with his own Monster Point would be absolutely devastating.

RELATED: What Is The Meaning Of The One Piece Term Roof Piece?

robin

Yamato may wish to learn to read and write Robin’s ancient poneglyph language. It would bring her one step closer to being like Oden if she could learn that ancient language. It would also make her an asset to the Straw Hats.

Normally, Robin wouldn’t just give away the secret to reading the Poneglyphs. It’s probably because she understands how important a target can become by gaining this knowledge. However, she could trust Yamato to be strong enough to learn the language and handle anyone who chases her for the knowledge.

RELATED: One Piece Releases New Movie Costumes For Multiple Characters

Franky

Franky is the only other Straw Hat Yamato has encountered so far. He helped her, Momonosuke, and Shinobu get away from Sasaki of the Tobiroppo. In return, she knocks Hatcha out of Numbers. The two will have to thank each other properly once the dust has completely settled on Onigashima.

Besides that, Franky would probably like to hear Kozuki Oden’s story. Yamato, after reading and re-reading it, would be able to get all the emotional details needed to make Franky cry. He might even pull out his old guitar and sing for the occasion.

RELATED: One Piece: Has Kaido’s Devil Fruit Ever Awakened?

Stream

Brook and Yamato could work together to entertain the crew. Clearly, Brook would be the musician he always was. Yamato might take this opportunity to resurrect Oden’s infamous song and dance. Originally, Orochi had him perform naked in the streets, making it one of his biggest disgraces. Yamato, with help from Brook, was able to rework the performance and change its meaning to something positive, even empowering.

Also, Brook would naturally ask to see Yamato’s panties like he does with all women. Yamato might reveal that she only wears a fundoshi. Brook may or may not be in it.

Jimbei

Jimbei is another Straw Hats member with a close connection to Ace. The way they first met Ace is even similar, until Ace wanted to fight an Emperor. If he ever caught Yamato and Luffy sharing sake and reminiscing about Ace, he could sit down and join them.

Jimbei might also have some advice for Yamato on how to fight discrimination. She is not a fish-man, but it is implied that whatever race causes her to have horns, she is not human. If people treat her differently for that, Jimbei will know what to say.

COURT ADJOURNED: One of West Victoria’s premier courthouses is in dire need of a lifeguard. Photos: Westech Real Estate.

Have you ever seen an important piece of ancient Australian history that desperately needs saving?

The old wooden Lillimur Courthouse and Post Office hangs right there – a stone’s throw from the border between Victoria and South Australia.

Built in 1887, it was the first courthouse built to bring justice to the brave new settlers of West Wimmera.

Today, he’s hoping someone can save it, offered at a bound price of around $40,000 to $44,000.

As you can see from the photos, the courthouse has fallen into disrepair, as has much of a once prosperous Lillimur that has all but disappeared.

Planners for a rail extension from Dimboola to Serviceton have apparently been spooked by what appear to be quite low hills in the area and have chosen a less strenuous route through Kaniva, some 10 kilometers away.

In its early years Lillimur prospered with various general stores, hotels, churches, a school (reportedly with 100 pupils) and even a flour mill.

MORE READING: Pioneers knew where to choose prime farmland.

The streets were lit by kerosene lamps.

So many towns in early Australia owe their existence to the alignment of railway lines and Lillimur lost.

The name Lillimur is said to have been taken from a local Aboriginal word meaning bone or acacia gum. Lillimur had first been used for a pastoral station from 1866.

The court last adjourned in 1892 and then moved down the street to become the post office just before World War I until it closed in the 1980s.

Now it has been handed over to agents at Westech Real Estate for who have struggled to find someone willing to take on a huge restoration project.

They have extended expressions of interest to buy it until June 17.

Apart from its rich pioneering history, the only other thing as it is on a large block of 1000 square meters it has been reconstructed as well as a very low maintenance garden.

But vandals worked inside to smash windows and officers faded out some graffiti to avoid offence.

Constructed from wooden planks, it has that brick fireplace and two fire pits.

There are various old style windows and a high arched roofline.

The post office window is still recognizable at the front of the property.

It is zoned agriculture with an “environmentally significant” planning overlay and has no connected services.

There are also signs of termite damage.

That’s all bad news, but it’s a unique building at a low purchase price. He waited a long time for a rescuer.

While browsing the shelves of the World of Disney store at Disneyland, friend of /Film Reza Lackey discovered a brand new Indiana Jones shirt for sale. Printed on a gray shirt, the design features five silhouettes of the legendary adventurer in various poses with his signature whip above Roman numerals one through five, each representing a different film from the series.

Even though it’s a pretty cool shirt, it doesn’t reveal anything about “Indy 5”. More generic products like this are likely on their way to Disney parks and beyond in the coming months before the film’s theatrical debut, but the timing of this shirt’s release is the most curious part. We’re one day away from this year’s Star Wars celebration, which is taking place right outside Disneyland in Anaheim, California. On the con program for day one is a panel called Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase.

Celebration is usually a place that focuses primarily on “Star Wars,” but the “Indiana Jones” series is also a big part of the Lucasfilm catalog. Could this be an indication that we might get some new information about Dr. Henry Jones Jr.’s latest adventure during the event? It is certainly possible. Maybe we’ll even get the first trailer for the highly anticipated film. Or it’s just a coincidence since the theme park is home to the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, home to the “Indiana Jones Adventure” attraction and a nearby gift shop that periodically needs new merchandise.

Coincidence or not, it’s always exciting to know that we’re getting closer and closer to the release of “Indiana Jones 5” after all this time. If anything pops up at Star Wars Celebration, we’ll be sure to keep our readers updated. Until then, get your leather jackets and fedoras ready for the film’s arrival in theaters on June 30, 2023.

BRAINERD – This is a piece of history that many people probably pass by without even noticing.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brainerd incorporates a piece of the past unintentionally hidden in plain sight: a stone from the village of Old Crow Wing in what is now Crow Wing State Park.

“We have a cornerstone that we believe comes from the first Crow Wing Church, which was long before 1871 when we were founded,” Reverend Joyce Rush said.

A historic site marker to the left of the main entrance to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, at the northeast corner of North Seventh and Juniper Streets, informs visitors of the history of Brainerd Church dating back to 1871 .

Frank Lee/Brainerd Dispatch

Reverend Charles M. Bradnon became rector in 1929. And while he was at Brainerd Parish at North Seventh and Juniper streets, the present church was built.

“When the church was rebuilt, they put it in the ‘new’ building in the 1930s,” Rush said.

The church sanctuary was built in the 1930s and has beautiful historic stained glass windows. The church bell began ringing again after the historic steeple was repaired on March 25 at a cost of approximately $18,000; the bell dates from 1875 and remained unusable for about ten years.

Brandon had, however, discovered in the foundations of the old parsonage what is believed to be the cornerstone of the Old Crow Wing Village Church, which was built in 1860.

“On this one were roughly chiseled a broken tomahawk, a peace pipe and a cross,” according to a story from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located near Gregory Park.

“This relic is now embedded in the stone wall of the current church, on the right side of the main entrance.”

Rush said, “They found it when they were tearing down the last parsonage in St. Paul.”

Enmegahbowh was the first Native American to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Bishop Jackson Kemper ordained him a deacon in 1859, and Enmegahbowh traveled to Crow Wing County to help found St. Columba’s Mission.

“When he was a young man he wanted to save the settlers from being killed, so he went down the Crow Wing River to warn the settlers that another native was going to have a plan to come and wipe them out,” Rush mentioned.

The Episcopal Calendar of Saints recalls Enmegahbowh on June 12.

Rush said of Enmegahbowh’s rescue actions: “The good thing is he gets credit for it and ‘Yay for us’. But, in another way, he is still seen by many Native Americans as a traitor. .

The historic cornerstone is “a permanent reminder of the Crow Wing Church, built after the Gull Lake Mission School closed due to Indian rum trading activities,” according to a booklet distributed to visitors to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

“I’m not from Minnesota. And I lived here for about 15 years or more before I even knew it was there,” Rush said of the inlaid cornerstone in the southwest corner of Brainerd Church.

The original St. Paul’s Episcopal Church was razed in 1922 and construction began on a basement, to be used as a temporary place of worship, according to Rush. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church was Brainerd’s first church.

“The first church had to be demolished. He was in really bad shape,” Rush said. “They built a ‘basement’ – in the Episcopal Church it is called the ‘basement’ – under the church and held services there for several years until they had enough money to build more.”

If you’ve always passed Easton, Maryland on your rush to Rehoboth Beach, then you’re missing something.

Historic and charming, Easton offers stylish and friendly accommodations, an array of eclectic shops and galleries, award-winning restaurants and more in a welcoming environment for LGBTQ visitors.

Indeed, some of the city’s largest and most successful businesses are gay-owned, and Easton aims to attract more LGBTQ visitors this year, in part by hosting its first-ever Pride celebration in June.

“It’s a welcoming and safe place where people can be who they are and it’s a prime location for a more developed gay community,” said Eric Levinson, owner of the Hummingbird Inn. Levinson is among the organizers of Easton Pride, scheduled for June 17-19.

Levinson moved to Easton in 2017 and opened the hostel. He says he feared being openly gay because there weren’t many gay businesses. When someone flew their Pride flag that year from the inn’s porch, Levinson blogged about it and said he got a favorable response from the city. The owners of a nearby bed and breakfast bought him a new Pride flag and there have been no problems since.

In fact, during a recent Blade visit to Easton, Maryland gubernatorial candidate Tom Perez was in town for a campaign stop and one of the first questions he faced from the community was about their platform on LGBTQ issues.

“When I talk about jobs, justice and opportunity, LGBTQ inclusion has been a big part of that,” Perez said. “One of the privileges of my life has been to work on these issues.”

Easton is home to approximately 15,000 Talbot County residents and was incorporated in 1790, although its founding dates back to the early 1700s when the Maryland Provincial Assembly chose it as the site of a courthouse to serve the pre-revolutionary population of sea merchants and farmers, according to Discover Easton. It’s only a 90 minute drive from Washington, DC, and about the same from Rehoboth Beach.

Start your visit by checking the Hummingbird Inn (14 N. Aurora St.), a short walk to town, which offers six en-suite bedrooms, each named after east coast towns. The Queen Anne Victorian Inn is fully updated with modern baths. Try the newly remodeled and spacious Crisfield Room with its contemporary style and multiple seating areas on the third floor. The inn is dog-friendly, and in the mornings, Levinson ably takes on the role of chef, wowing guests with an unparalleled multi-course cooked-to-order breakfast. He says his travel experience in 70 countries around the world informs his approach to hospitality.

“I’m proud of our attention to detail,” he says. “I modeled the hostel on my travel experience. If I’m going somewhere, that’s what I expect — I need great products, towels, pillows. This is where I acquired the experience necessary to know what is expected of a traveler.

And his approach is working – he says at least six former guests have since bought homes in Easton.

Levinson even accommodates those with dietary restrictions at his famous breakfast, noting, “Just because you’re on a restricted diet doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a good time.”

Chatting with locals, everyone seems to have enjoyed Levinson’s breakfast feast; it really is something to see, starting with a selection of homemade breads. On a recent visit there was a baked egg dish and a delicious French toast dish. Be sure to treat yourself – you won’t need lunch.

As for Pride, Levinson says he was approached by Delmarva Pride to plan an event. 2020 plans were scrapped due to COVID. But this year’s inaugural event will be a three-day celebration with a drag show, Pride dance at the hostel, as well as a street fair and Sunday brunch. Call the hostel to book as special ticket packages will be offered (410-822-0605). The hostel celebrates its fifth anniversary on August 6 with food, drink and a band. And if you’re planning a wedding, Levinson is ordained and has officiated at many gay ceremonies.

“I want people to know that this isn’t just a B&B and more than just a place to sleep because we host so many events here,” Levinson says.

One of the largest such events is the 18th Annual Easton Convention Outdoor Festival from July 15 to 24, the largest such festival in the country. According to the event site, “the plein air painters produce art from life (as opposed to the studio)” and this year 58 artists will be invited to the competition. The artwork is for sale, and the 2021 event brought in nearly $500,000 in sales. Visit pleinaireaston.com for more details.

As well as the Hummingbird, you’ll find all kinds of accommodation, from quaint B&Bs to Easton’s Grande Dame, the Tide Inna large hotel and conference center that dates back to 1947. Its restaurant, Hunters’ Tavern, is known for snapper soup, and the bar is cozy with friendly staff.

Once you’re checked in, explore the bustling boutique and gallery scene. Rediscover the lost pleasure of browsing a bookstore in Old books and fine arts (4 N. Washington St., vintagebooksmd.com). You’ll find all kinds of fascinating local stories and maritime-themed tomes.

Among the local galleries, Studio B Art Gallery stands. Owner Betty Huang, herself an accomplished artist, represents many esteemed painters and the gallery will host an outdoor workshop with Master Jove Wang on July 11. Visit studiobartgallery.com for details.

Buy clothes ? Don’t miss Mark Randall boutique (3 E. Dover St., marc-randall.com), offering a mix of classic and edgy womenswear with a smaller selection of menswear.

Marc Del Pino owns the store and sits on the Discover Easton Board of Directors. Over happy hour drinks, he also looks like the town’s unofficial mayor, as everyone who enters stops to say hello. Originally from Trinidad, Del Pino moved to New York and then to Easton. He has been in business in Easton for 29 years.

“I thought I would have a problem moving here, but I never did,” he says. “I never felt like a stranger or out of place; I felt like I was coming home when I first came here. … I was tired of New York, it reminds me of Trinidad here being smaller with a lovely downtown.

All these purchases will leave you hungry and there is no shortage of restaurants. Among the best is Scossa (8 N. Washington St.), owned by Italian-born chef Giancarlo Tondin, who began his career at Harry’s Bar in Venice. He then worked for the Cipriani family’s many restaurants in New York, including the Rainbow Room before moving to Easton. It specializes in northern Italian cuisine.

Another star is out of the fire (22 Goldsborough St.), a farm-to-table bistro offering globally inspired dishes and an open kitchen. Try the warm confit chicken and roasted apple salad or browse an extensive pizza menu, from duck sausage to a vegan option.

The square (108 N. Washington St., thewardroom.com) offers a market as well as lunch and dinner fare, like homemade pastas and tempting selections of charcuterie, cheeses and wines.

After dinner, head to the historic Avalon Theater. The building dates from the early 1920s but has been renovated and reinvented over the years. Today, the Avalon features musical and dramatic theater, symphony orchestras, national musical acts as well as local talent, according to its site. This summer brings a wide range of programming, from “Hamlet” to a free community parenting conference. Visit avalonfoundation.org for more information.

For a laid-back and welcoming getaway without the summer beach crowds, Easton is a relaxing destination full of history, culture, top-notch restaurants and upscale shopping in an LGBTQ city near DC

As Del Pino said, “I could go anywhere in the world, but I cross the Bay Bridge and I’m home – a piece of heaven.”
