JAMMU, April 4: The painting by renowned diabetologist Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, who happens to be an eminent painter in Jammu, has been awarded Gold Award by Kalaratnam Foundation of Art Society for International Online Art Exhibition/Competition .
Dr. Raj Kumar has been actively contributing and participating in the field of art for over 20 years. His paintings have been exhibited regularly in annual art exhibitions organized by the J&K Art Academy of Art, Culture & Languages. His works have been selected for display in national and international art exhibitions in the past.
He has held 5 solo exhibitions on various important themes, his first solo exhibition “Ganesha – The Inspiration” held at Abhinav Art Gallery Jammu in April 2003 which was inaugurated by Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma (Santoor Maestro). His latest exhibition was at Ganesh Art Gallarie at his Gandhi Nagar residence which is J&K’s only personal art gallery. In addition to this, he has participated in several group exhibitions and art camps.
Dr. Raj Kumar mainly used the acrylic medium for his paintings, but also used dry crayons and charcoal for two different exposures, which is a rare medium used for drawings. Although painting is his forte, he has also created sculptures in different mediums such as stone and wood. His major works represent Ganesha in different forms and moods in unconventional abstract forms.
In order to promote young talent, for the past 20 years it has organized an annual painting competition for schoolchildren on the theme of diabetes and its complications on World Diabetes Day. His diabetes paintings are on display at the American Diabetes Association Georgia Headquarters. His paintings are also in the private collection of Biocon Pharma and other art collectors in India and abroad.
