Firefighters had to chisel out a wall to save a cub stuck between a garage and a stone wall.

The cute creature was one of two cubs that ended up stranded at Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire on Friday.

One was rescued by volunteers from a local animal rescue charity, but firefighters called to the scene had to help free the second.

They reached the cub by scissoring through the wall and then handed it over to Nottingham-based HARC Hope Animal Rescue so it could be examined.

If well enough, the cubs were to be released into the wild where they could be reunited with their mother.

A Facebook post from Ashfield Fire Station said on Friday: “Firefighters from Ashfield Fire Station have just returned to the station after rescuing a trapped Fox Cub.

“2 cubs were stuck between a garage and a stone wall, one was rescued by HARC Animal Rescue before Ashfield arrived, but the second had to be rescued by our fire department.

He added: “Access was gained by chiseling through the wall to access the cub.

“The little fox was then handed over to HARC Animal Rescue who took the cubs for check-up to ensure they would be well enough to be released into the wild. Hopefully both cubs will be reunited with mum for more late tonight.”
